Synopsis

We are thrilled to return to the historic Kimball Theater in Colonial Williamsburg for the second consecutive year for our upcoming production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore! First performed in 1878, the show remains one of the most influential musicals in history and tells (and satirizes) a story of British patriotism and love across class divides on the titular H.M.S Pinafore. We look forward to sharing this timeless classic with you!

Aboard the H.M.S. Pinafore, at anchor off the shore of Portsmouth, England, love blossoms across class divides. Ralph Rackstraw, a lowly sailor, is in love with Josephine, his captain’s daughter. Although Josephine requites Ralph’s love, she refuses to tell him so on behalf of her father, who intends for her to marry the Rt. Hon Sir Joseph Porter, K.C.B., First Lord of the Admiralty. Sir Joseph’s talk of equality and insistence that “love levels all ranks” inadvertently encourages Ralph and Josephine to confess their love for each other and plan to elope. When the dastardly Dick Deadeye tells the captain of their plan, all seems to be going wrong until a surprise reveal (in traditional Gilbert and Sullivan style) leads to a happy ending of marriages and a whole lot of British pride.

The Sinfonicron Light Opera Company's production of H.M.S. Pinafore will take place from January 26th-January 29th, 2023.
